Biblical Studies Diploma Program Receives ODA approval

The new Biblical Studies Diploma Program offered by High Desert Christian College located in Bend, Oregon, has recently received approval from the Student Assistance Commission, Office of Degree Authorization.

The Office of Degree authorization is a state agency whose purpose is, "…to enhance the value, integrity, and diversity of Oregon's college programs." The Office of Degree Authorization provides for the protection of the citizens of Oregon and their postsecondary schools by ensuring the quality of higher education and preserving the integrity of an academic degree as a public credential. ODA administers laws, standards, and services that protect students, holders of legitimately earned degrees, institutions, businesses, employers, patients or clients, and licensing boards.

High Desert Christian College began seeking ODA approval for this new program in January, 2007 by evaluating all phases of its operations including faculty management, administrative policies, enrollment procedures, financial plans, student relations and instructional content. The result of this process was a 223 page document that was submitted to ODA in May. Final approval was received from Allan Contreras, ODA Administrator on June 26, 2007. Mr. Contreras commented in the approval letter on the quality of the application.

High Desert Christian College is a non-profit, non-denominational educational institution founded in 1997. It has grown each year with over 360 enrollments during the 2005/2006 academic year. The Biblical Studies Diploma Program begins enrollment August 9, 2007 and is the only ODA approved Biblical Studies Diploma program east of the Cascades. For the first time, HDCC will be able to offer its 32 credit transferable program in one academic year. Tuition is $85 per credit hour with scholarships available based on early enrollment and financial need. The training is useful for: Students planning to transfer to a four year college that requires Biblical studies core credits; Current or future vocational Christian workers who need formal Biblical training; and, Anyone who desires to gain a solid foundation for a Biblical world view.
