Churches of the Lake District

Friday, December 16th, 2011

The Lake District churches are not found in other parts of the country. He always had a small static population, and therefore the churches are generally small, with small cemeteries to provide a resting place for generations of one family. Cathedral of Our county is a long way north in the border city of Carlisle.

Many of our village churches are the same. From pieces of sandstone or slate-gray sometimes made, they have a little barn-like shape, the windows are small and short towers. A surprisingly large number of them claim, in the early Middle Ages saints, including St. Bega, St. Patrick and St. Kentigern was founded. There are a number of holiday homes in the Lake District, which again, where do you live that are close to these churches., Just.

These churches have rarely developed simple decoration in churches and later in other parts of the country. The compensation is stunning, stone crosses and grave stones of the Viking Age and earlier. Testament to the strength of Christianity in this remote part of the country from a very early stage, they are still Sentinel on cemeteries throughout the county.

St Kentigern was a sixth or 7 Century monk, better in Scotland as St. Mungo of Glasgow Cathedral known. Mungo is just a nickname, meaning “dear friend”.

St. Patrick – Patron Saint of Ireland

Patrick was the son of Calpurnius, a deacon who lived in a town called Banna Venta Taberniae in England. It is impossible to be sure in which city is now real, but many speculate it is Carlisle, England, on the border with Scotland. His family had a small estate there, and it was where he lived until 14 to 16. Patrick was captured by Irish pirates and slavery in Ireland. He stayed there and worked as a shepherd for six years before escaping and returning to his family. Two letters written by St. Patrick still exists and is one of them known as the Letter of Representation. In the representation letter that he claims to have had a vision of a man named Victoricus the realization came to him and gave a lot of letters to Patrick called The Voice of Irish. In this, she called him by saying: “We appeal to you, holy servant, come and walk among us.”

The declaration also on a multitude of charges against him, but again it is not explicit, but only mention that he presents back to people do not accept payment for the baptism baptized, and then concentrates on with thousands of people. He ordered the priests lead the new Christian communities and even implemented some of the women nuns. It is very important to consider that Patrick is not Irish to keep him, he was treated as a foreigner in Ireland and by refusing to support the king would be a difficult thing to do. It does not apply to, robbed and beaten and put in irons.

The best available date for the death of Patrick AD 460 and 17 March, so why Ireland has this as a party, such as Patrick is their patron. It is said to be buried at Down Cathedral in Downpatrick, along with St. Brigid and St. Columba, although there is no real evidence to support this conclusion.
