Pioneers in Christian Counseling

Gladys K. Mwiti, MA psychologist, counsel, the founder and director of Oasis Counseling and Training Institute have run in Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to his work at the Oasis is the President of the Gladys Christian Association of Kenya consultant. Her husband, Gershon, is the leading national team of African Enterprise, an indigenous African Advisory Services Department. Gladys and Gershon have three daughters and one son. At the 1997 AACC World Conference in November, I spent some time with Gladys, talks about his pioneering work in Kenya.

Tell me about yourself, your background and how you met God.

I was in Meru District, Kenya, near the snowy, northern slopes of the mountain is born. Kenya. Its quite cold indeed. I grew up in a Christian home. My mother loves the Lord. It has always been a woman of prayer, and Id like to be like them. She took me to church and large conventions.

In Africa we have the immense, evangelistic meetings, people sit on the green grass under the sun. This is the kind of environment where I can get the Lord as my savior. We were up at a convention of 3000 and the gospel was preached from John 3:16. I remember, said the preacher is not so much you have committed sin in your life that the Lord loves you so, so much, and he asks, you can m ‘a little love in return? As a child of seven years, I do not see my sin as a bad thing. I knew I was guilty of licking the cream to the milk when my mother was not to seek or to catch and eat bread in the cupboard. What I really saw in me that day was a heart that was hoped and desired to know the love of God.
